Rise of Extremism in Pakistan

The menace of extremism has plagued society of Pakistan. It has tarnished the image of Pakistan. It is a critical problem leading to social, economic, moral, ethical and political turmoil. It is triggered by internal and external factors. Economic disparity, unemployment, illiteracy, population growth, inequality and social injustice are the internal factors. While, external factors include involvement of Pakistan in regional and international power game and proxy wars which has added fuel to fire.
       Extremism in its various forms exists in society. Most prominent of them is religious and ethnic. Lack of religious knowledge has pushed the society towards religious extremism. Islam is a religion of peace. The so-called religious scholars did not interpret real Islam, due to their own ignorance. It has increased rift among people of different sects. Intolerance among different religious schools of thought has increased, which has triggered sectarianism throughout the country. Religious extremism could lead people take extreme steps. The worst example is the lynching of Mashal Khan in 2016.
       The dark history of ethnical rivalry in Karachi between Muhajir’s and Pushtoon’s has taken lives of hundreds of innocent people. Ethnic groups in Balochistan has been fighting against the government from the beginning. The sense of deprivation of rights among the people resulted insurgency in Balochistan.
       Government of Pakistan has got a lot to do on its part, to counter extremism in the country. People need to be provided with basic needs of life. It must develop strategies to enhance employment in the country. Social justice must be ensured. It should arrange programs to teach the real philosophy of Islam to people. The four provinces of Pakistan should be treated equally and eradicate deprivation of provinces
